SEO and the CEO: Does Twitter Equal Dollars?

seoforceo.com SEO and Twitter. You hear your employee’s, friends and neighbors talk about Twitter.  Social Media hard at work in the SEO world. You know it’s something your company should be involved with, yet you’re not quite sure now to proceed.  Should I give it to IT to manage, or marketing?  Is it something I have to host here, and how will it affect corporate brand…and more importantly, how will Twitter and SEO affect my sales and lead generation?

First thing I’d look at is BusinessWeek’s article on Twitter and how it has positively affected large corporate entities.  When used correctly, Twitter can be useful in getting new programs and products in front of prospective buyers as well as product information before the eyes of people most interested in what your company has to offer.  You don’t have to be a large corporation to get the word out there, but incorporating Twitter into your Social Media arsenal is a vital link in your marketing strategy.

Sign up for a Twitter account and play with it for a couple of hours.  Become familiar with its strengths and weaknesses.  Search for things you’re interested in, and see how the interaction takes place.  Once you’re somewhat familiar, contact whomever is responsible for marketing and get their input.  Implement it into your overall social media marketing strategy.

Ensure whatever website tracking program you’re using (like Google Analytics) is setup properly to track Twitter referrals, and view where those referrals go on your website and if they’re converting effectively.  Monitor for three months and have marketing report back on the progress. Remember: it’s important to have as many visits to your site from as many different venues as possible to assist in achieving a high rank for your website.  Let your marketing people do their job, so you can do yours.
